On a scorching Sydney Summer's day in mid November, 24 brave souls made their way to Moore Park Golf Course for the Easts Hockey Club Golf Day.
The teams had already been decided before the day, it was to be England versus the Rest of the World (aka Ireland plus a couple of ring-ins).·As the players arrived it was apparent some pre-match wardrobe planning had been employed with England looking neat and tidy in blue shorts and white shirts, ROW looking less so..
The format was to be typical Ryder Cup with a point from each of the 6 fourballs. The handicapper had taken a rather simple (but easy to remember) approach and granted everyone a handicap of either 18,27 or 36.. apparently on the basis of how much cash may have 'fallen' out of your pocket and miraculously landed at the back of his car. So with an expectant crowd gathering at the first tee the the match started with Bradders, Jabber (representing England), Andy Herbert and Kitty (ROW) teeing off first.
For the next 5 1/2 hours various oooohs and aaaaaahs reverberated around the well presented course, there was the odd interaction between groups whilst locating wayward balls and general banter before the expectant groups gathered at the clubhouse for a well earned refreshment.
