Match Report by Ben

Playing Ryde at Ryde on a “club day” meant we not only had to contend with their team on the field but also the large numbers of supporters and other grades that were there to see them win. Luckily Easts were fired up from the start and from the whistle were looked to pass well and keep hold of the ball. After only 5 minutes Easts moved the ball up the pitch well and Rich had a chance on goal which he narrowly pushed outside the near post. Only minutes later an almost exact copy of the build up play lead to Rich being in the same spot in the D with only the keeper to beat. This time he made no mistake and nicely dinked the ball over the keeper to put the first score on the board. The second goal came soon after this from a short corner in which Rich again found the net.

The run of play continued throughout the first half with Easts dominating possession and controlling the game. This was mainly down to great work rate by the whole team and putting pressure on Ryde as soon as we lost the ball. With Jabba back from injury and the return of Geevsie to defence meant the back line was pretty strong and rarely let Ryde get far inside our own 25. When the shots did come Bradders was on fine form in goal to pull off some great saves and keep a clean sheet. A further goal came before half time which gave us a comfortable 3-0 margin into the break.

The same format resumed after half time with Easts continuing to pass the ball around well and with good pace placing constant pressure on the Ryde defence. Jarrod in centre midfield constantly terrorised his opposing player not giving them any time on the ball to get passes away. Further goals came from Justin and Rich shortly into the second half kept Ryde from thinking any sort of comeback was on the cards.

Ryde did have a few more chances in the second half from the break but with good chasing back from the midfield and some strong defence meant these were minimised. Late in the game Easts scored a further two in quick succession with well placed shots from the top of the D by Andy and Jarrod. Final score Easts 7, Ryde 0.
